EYO Celebrates Ambrose Alli 32 years after death!

..Dedicates Esan-wide Quiz Competition to his memory!

Ekpoma 22nd September, 2021.

A foremost global organization of Esan people, the Esan Youths Organization (EYO) shall celebrate the life and times of Prof Ambrose Alli, one of the greatest Esan sons that has walked the face of this Earth.

A statement released by the President of EYO, Comrade Kingsley Ohens, made available to the press in Ekpoma states thus:

“We the Esan Youths and people of Nigeria shall continually celebrate the life, times, service, contributions and inputs to Edo cum Bendel development, spearheaded by this great man. This year making it 32 years after his demise and as a tradition of this body, we shall be holding an enlarged memorial service in his honour and also dedicate the second Edition of Edo Central Science and Mathematics Competition to his memory”.

The EYO decided to remember Great Professor Ambrose again and again because he lived a life of service to our people and humanity. He is the reason why our people are very educated even till this day.

Without enmasing wealth for himself as the first executive governor of old Bendel State, he built over 800 brand new secondary schools, several colleges of education and teacher training colleges and crown it with the establishment of the first state owned University in Nigeria now Ambrose Alli University and the Delta State University Abraka.

Ambrose Alli made education free at all levels and provided aids to civil servants who wanted to further their education.

After retiring from public service, Ambrose Alli retired to his father’s house in Ekpoma without a single house built in his name. It was from his father’s house that the military arrested him and found him guilty of embezzlement. He was denied of access to his doctors in Ikoyi prison and was almost blind by the time Chief Osawaru Igbinedion paid one million naira to the government for his release. He died some few months after his release.

It is with great pains and tears that our organization celebrates this great Esan son and will continue to do so to instill the doctrine of service in the younger generation.

Details of the memorial programme shall be made available to the general public before the end of today.
